Mark Zuckerberg, the one behind the most popular social networking site Facebook, is apparently changing their mission. The reputation management agencies around the world are watching carefully as they wait for any problems to happen on the way to this new mission. The company has recently changed their mission statement to ‘’give people the power to build community and bring the world close together’’. Since Facebook has gone public back I n2012, this is the first time that CEO Mark Zuckerberg has changed their mission statement. Their old mission statement for several years was ‘’to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected’’.

Facebook today has almost 2 billion monthly users. They are trying to make society less divided now and that is why they claim they have the responsibility to do more and to bring the world closer together. They even have some new goals to help people join meaningful community, 1 billion to be precise. Facebook only considers there to be 100 million meaningful group members. According to Chris Coz the Facebook Chief Product Officer, their mission statements are how they talk about what they are doing next and how they can justify things to one another.

Facebook over the last few years has put heavier emphasis on privacy and for Zuckerberg, this means with his cross-country listening tour. Facebook is always looking for constant feedback from their users and want to always dig deeper to find out what is it about Facebook that is more meaningful and what is it that is not meaningful to their users. This goes for any smart company; they will conduct surveys or ask their audience what is working for the company and what is not working. Getting an outside perspective for many companies is what ultimately helps them become more successful since they can tailor to their audience and to their different markets.
