Please note: a refurbished iMac is not a second hand from. Do not you have the latest of the latest, but do you want a decent device? Then a refurbished iMac is a good option. In this article we tell you everything you need to know in five chapters.

Step 1. Choose your Model

The first step in buying a refurbished iMac is clear: which model do you need? The iMac has existed since 1998 and has been regularly updated over the years.

The Different iMac Models

Because the iMac has existed since 1998, numerous different models and versions have already appeared. The model that is now still new and refurbished is almost all the iMac Aluminum, Unibody, Slim and Retina.

iMac Aluminum Unibody (2009):

  • Appeared in 2009, Apple sales stop in 2012.
  • Choice of 21.5 or 27-inch LED LCD display.
  • Intel Core 2 Duo, i3, i5 or i7 processors.

iMac Slim (2012):

  • Appeared in 2012, Apple sales stop in 2015.
  • Choice of 21.5 or 27-inch LED LCD display.
  • Intel Core i5 or i7 processors.

iMac Retina (2015 – present):

  • Appeared in 2015, is still being sold by Apple.
  • Choice of 21.5 or 27-inch LED CD display Retina.
  • Intel Core i5 or i7 processors.

Watch out with Retina-iMacs from 2015 or 2017

Although the first iMac Retina was released in 2015, Apple has provided the model with an upgrade in 2017. Always look carefully at the year in which these iMac Retina’s were originally built. The 2017 model is equipped with the newer Kaby Lake processors and run on a newer (better) Bluetooth version. The speed of the 2017 model is also higher than that of 2015. Of course you can also see this reflected in the price.

How Big should the Screen be?

Many refurbished iMacs currently being sold have screen sizes of 21.5-, 24- and 27-inches and were built in 2012 and 2013. When you have regular various programs open at the same time, a large screen is so nice. You have all the space to perform them side by side and no detail escapes you. In addition, the basic specifications of the 27-inch iMac are better than those of the smaller models. This makes it more powerful and more suitable for performing heavy (graphic) tasks.

Resolutions: do you go for Full-Hd or the Newer and Sharper ‘Retina’

iMac screens have different resolutions. Since refurbished models are used, sellers often do not offer the latest models. Refurbished iMacs therefore often have full-hd or wqhd screens. These models came on the market before 2014.
