Chinese giant Oppo is finally marking its footprint in the Indian smartphone market. The company is grabbing business from its top-notch camera technology and is rising sky high on the charts. The start its selfie-focused Oppo F1 gave earlier this year is now getting better with the beefed up Oppo F1s. The upgraded handset has been in the pipeline for months and is set to debut on August 3 in India.
But before Oppo F1s goes live, our buyers should know what makes this handset different from Oppo F1 Plus, the recent success story from the company. The two phones look very similar and belong to the same family, but on the inside, there are somethings you’d want to keep in mind. So, let’s keep both these beauties together!
Design and Build Quality
As per tipped rumours, Oppo F1s will follow a premium design strategy and will feature a sleek all-metal body with fine aesthetics. The device will be an extension of F1 Plus and is expected to boast a snappy fingerprint scanner integrated with the home button. It will ship in Gold and Silver and will look very similar toF1 Plus which already makes a great style statement with a slim and light profile.
Oppo F1 Plus gives reminiscence of the iPhone 6s. The device has an all metal body, curved corners, and a slightly protruding rear camera with antennal lines on top and bottom. It ships in Gold and Rose Gold and looks outstanding from all angles.
Viewing Experience and Video Output
If you’re looking for crisp and vivid visuals, Oppo’s F1 series is sure to live up to your expectations. All members in this family deliver punchy and vibrant visuals and create an exemplary ecosystem for work and play.F1 Plus, at the first place, boasts a massive5.5-inch full-HD display. Its AMOLED panel comes protected with Gorilla Glass 4 on-the-top and delivers true-to-life colours and looks stunning from all angles. The experience of a bezel-less edge to edge display gets totally redefined with this beauty.
Oppo F1s is also rumoured to bear a full-HD display. The devicewill be slightly smaller and will pack a 5-inch panel with enhanced pixel count or it will be similar to 5.5-inch screen. Just like its elder sibling, it will also deliver an above par viewing experience in artificial as well as broad daylight. There might be few more tweaks but we’ll only after the official launch on August 3.
Performance and Internals
While there’s no official word, rumours suggest Oppo F1s will drop with an octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor with 3GB RAM and 32GB inbuilt storage. Some sources also point towards a MediaTek MT6750 chipset, but at this stage all we can is, F1s will indeed keep all your projects up and running without any lags or heating issues. It might not take on the OnePlus 3, but will definitely make an ideal upgrade over other mid-rangers.
Priced around 25k, Oppo F1 Plus is also a power-packed offering. It runs on MediaTek MT6755 Helio P10 processor and bears heavy usage with a whopping 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage. You can play heavy games on this handset for long hours and can also keep a massive selection of apps and docs ready on-the-go. It’s more a flagship than a mid-ranged smartphone!
Software-Color OS
Both phones run Color OS out-of-the box with a bunch of customizations and tweaks on offer. The interface from the Chinese giant is fairly snappy but F1s is likely to run it on the top of Android Marshmallow, the latest from Google. The custom skin will also include new features and an improved camera app with a slew of filters and modes for selfie-addicts.
Oppo F1 Plus runs Color OS with Android 5.1 out-of-the box. It delivers an intuitive user-experience but we’re not sure if Oppo has plans to push Marshmallow upgrade to this beauty.
Camera
The major selling point of Oppo’s F1 series is its mind-boggling camera technology. F1 Plus delivered stand out performance with its superb rear and front-facing shooter and now we expect the same from the sleek and sassy F1s.
According to the recent reports, Oppo F1s will be coming with a 13-megapixel selfie camera with a bunch of filters and modes in the camera app. There’s nothing on its rear camera, but to start off, 16-megapixels on the front-facing shooter will be a real highlight for selfie-fanatics. Pixel count is never a full story with modern-day smartphones, but 16-megapixels on the F1s will certainly upgrade your photography experience.
But let us tell you, this is not the first time Oppo has unleashed a 16-megapixel selfie camera. Oppo F1 plus also incorporates a 16-megapixel front-facing shooter with impeccable capabilities such as, f/2.0 aperture and full-HD video capture. It endows picture-perfect selfies and is equally well supported by a 13-megapixelrear camera with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, HDR and LED flash.
Battery Life
Oppo F1 Plus bears a 2850 mAh battery, while F1s is rumoured to incorporate a slightly bigger 3050mAh battery. The two phones have different batteries on paper, but in real life they’ll give you sufficient juice for an entire day of work and play. The only place where F1s might have an advantage is with Marshmallow’s effective power-optimization. It optimizes apps and reduces battery and memory usage by a significant margin.

With less than a week to go for the official Oppo F1s launch, we’d suggest it’s better to wait than to regret after making a wrong choice. Oppo F1s is impressive so is F1 Plus, but if you’re looking for something above par at a tempting price bracket, we suggest F1s as a good option to look into.
