“Rs. 50 COIN” State Bank Of Pakistan Acknowledging Edhi

On March 31/2017, the STATE BANK OF PAKISTAN presented a commemorative coin of RS-50 denomination in honor of the late philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi who is to be known as the benefactor of poor who founded the Edhi Foundations, which runs hospitals, homeless shelters, rehab centers, and orphanages across Pakistan and spent his whole life serving the poor.

Until now Edhi is the only social worker who has been honored with a commemorative coin, as he laid down the norms of charity and welfare.

According to earlier news commemorative coin is round shape weighting 13.5 grams, composed of Cuprous Nickel(75% copper and 25% nickel) .On one side of the commemorative coin Abdul Sattar Edhi’s portrait is engraved and words “Abdul Sattar Edhi — an era of humanity” along with “1928-2016” are inscribed on it, while on the other side A cresent and a star along with Islamic Republic of Pakistan are inscribed on it. Governor of State Bank Ashraf Mahmood Wathra, presented the commemorative coin to Faisal Edhi son of Abdus Sattar Edhi, was also present on the occasion held at the SBP office.

In his speech Mr. Wathra  also pointed out that so far Pakistan has only issued only five commemorative coins in honour of five different personalities named Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Allama Iqbal, Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah, Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed and now Abdul Sattar Edhi.

Governor of State Bank Ashraf Mahmood Wathra also mentioned that Edhi is the only social worker who has ever been honoured by a commemorative coin

He also mentioned that the decision of the issue of commemorative coin in light of his selfless efforts and sacrifice for the poor had been announced at a condolence gathering organized by the SBP after his passing in july.

On the proposal of STATE BANK OF PAKISTAN the Prime minister decided to issue a commemorative coin on Edhi’s services towards the nation. The wide scope of edhi’s services reflects the vision of a philanthropist into various social issues. His words were “adding that in rendering his services Edhi made no distinctions of geographical limits, color, race, nationality or religion. The best way to pay tribute Edhi Sahib is to embrace and to cooperate in all philanthropic activities.

Fasial Edhi appreciated the State Bank of Pakistan and the Pakistani government for the issuing of commemorative coin and said that his father (Abdus Sattar Edhi) will remain alive in the hearts of the nation, his mission should continue forever for the benefit of people.

According to the earlier news, the chief spokesperson of STATE BANK OF PAKISTAN Abid Qamar informed the audience that the commemorative coin will be available from today onward at SBP field offices all through the country. He also said that the issuance of commemorative coins was started on the birth century of Quaid-i-Azam (1876-1976) when three coins had been issued until now twenty seven commemorative coins on various occasions and personalities have been issued in which the occasions 100th and 150th anniversaries of Islamia College, Peshawar and Lawrence College, Murree were held.
